Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Great tacos and Burritos... This is not your taco bell stop.. Totally authentic Mexico... Love ours all the way and crunchy. We come here every time we stay in Flagler (we are from GA. And vacation here) well worth a stop.

I love the tacos with the works....love them! BUT, I have issue with the corn taco shells. I asked for a taco salad when I went in today and it's not something that's on the menu. There was a little confusion and discussion at first, and I didn't explain myself really well. They still made me the BEST taco salad I've ever had! Thank you :)
(5)Anna H.
Delicious every time. We eat there every time we come to the beach, sometimes more than once. Awesome tacos, especially Baja style.
(5)Angie W.
Very cute little burrito shack with picnic tables outside. The burritos were huge. We ordered two burritos, one pork and one chicken. The chicken was Baja style with black beans and pork was The Works was with refried beans. These burritos made us miss Colorado. 1. There was hardly any spice in either burrito. 2. There were rock hard grains of rice in both that left you wondering if you got a bone fragment. 3. They were as dry as the Sahara. With a few changes, this place could be great. A choice of salsa or pico would help the dryness and the lack of spice. A little more attention to detail would correct the rice problem. Doubt we will go back. Sadly, Chipoltle and Qdoba put this place to shame.

Three words stand between you and Mexican Food bliss: "You", "Eff" and "Oh." I had never been to A1A Burrito Works before, so when I got there, I asked the gentleman ('Quinton') what he'd recommend, and he said the UFO Burrito. He was right; it was outstanding. I got mine with beef, and requested a heat index of 8.5... I'd recommend A1A Burrito Works to anyone. It's the best kind of "hole in the wall" restaurant there is. The food is delicious & inexpensive, the folks who work there are friendly and approachable and the atmosphere is easy going walk-up-and-eat. Can't wait to go again!
(4)David P.
You can miss this place if your not looking for it, and boy will you be missing out. A1A Burrito Works is fresh and tasty always. It's a cool kinda roadside stand that is growing. The staff is friendly and easy going. A the price is a huge bargain for the portion they serve you. I don't think I have had better tacos anywhere they are delicious. I think the thing that makes it a hit is the salsa which just pops with fresh flavor. It's a great place for lunch or a snack or a quick diner while your at the beach.
(5)Josef C.
Delicious! The mahi Burrito baja style was just what I needed. Perfect combo of spice and lime.
(5)Mallory D.
Little shack on the beach, they have the best tacos! Service is however a hit or miss.
(5)Melissa B.
Shredded beef nachos were amazing, UFOs were outrageous and even kids loved everything! Be aware, only seating is outside picnic benches.
(5)Jamie W.
In the area and found this little spot to grab a bite for dinner. The amazing smells wafting out of here made the decision an easy one. Be prepared to sit outside as this is a tiny little place with only a few picnic tables for seating. Most have umbrellas so you do have protection from the sun and sprinkles. First off the staff was terrific. Funny and helpful with our questions. Really made us glad we had stopped here. We ordered fish tacos, a shrimp UFO, a shrimp and fish UFO, and a Rasta which is chips along with small cups of salsa, quest, and guacamole. The fish was Mahi-Mahi which is one of our favorites. You can have your selection either Baja style or The Works style. The tacos were fresh and the fish cooked nicely. I wish the fish would have been blackened or with a little more seasoning as it was hard to distinguish amidst the toppings. They were tasty though and I had one of each style, and preferred The Works. The UFO is a unique item consisting of a burrito of sorts with your choice of black or pinto beans, your choice of meat, and toppings. Then it is smoothed into a circle with a cheese bottom to prevent leaks. Hard to describe but very delicious according to hubby and teen. The salsa was very fresh with a nice kick, queso was good and the guacamole was oh so good. I don't like a lot of 'stuff' in my guac and this was perfect, full of nice ripe avocados and not much else. Dinner was a little on the pricey side for an outdoor taco place but hey, you're within 1/2 block to the ocean so prices tend to be a bit higher. Can't quite see the beach from here but you are able to view the Pier.
(4)Rod H.
This is great fast food. They use good products and the food is awesome. We split fish tacos, a chicken burrito, and a beef UFO. You get a choice of Pinto or black beans, traditional or baja. The UFO was my personal favorite.
(4)Ellis A.
This was the perfect ending to a beautiful day. Part One Tribe playing some awesome reggae rap mix and the sun on my back! Order "the Hollywood" on the tapas menu. Made a meal for 2. Loved the salsa, too! Great food, welcoming service and an amazing location. What more can you ask for? Say hi to Joey at bar!!! Great guy!
(5)Mary S.
The best authentic burritos and tacos in the area. I usually get the fish tacos and occasionally the UFO. The place is like an expanded food cart with barely room for two couples inside. Don't let the looks deceive you as the food is exceptional and the staff great.
(4)Lynn G.
I can only re-iterate that the food here is good - perhaps not the BEST Mexican food I've every had, but very good non the less. We are fortunate to have this little gem in our neighborhood - right across the street from the beach - you can walk over anytime, sit down at the picnic tables and enjoy a nice meal - bonus -- There is an ice cream shop on the opposite side of the street for some dessert. What could be better than that? Also, I really like that they are open on Sundays.
(4)Andrew H.
This place was an awesome find! The food really is as good as it gets! I love everything about this place, from the little shack sized kitchen, to the unique creations they have on the menu. This place is small. And by small I mean it's literally a shack. But it's the places like these; the places with character that always churn out the most delicious food. Probably only about three or four people can be inside the tiny building at a time before you start feeling claustrophobic. But, you only enter the tiny building to place your order. It's outside where you sit and eat your food. Seating is somewhat scarce if they're even remotely busy, as there are only three picnic tables. But, the food is so good that it's worth the slight inconvenience and possibility of not being able to find a seat. Now for my favorite item: The Mexican UFO. I guess you can say it's their version of Taco Bell's Crunchwrap Supreme, but don't mistake that as a comparison to Taco Bell. This place is way better in every possible way. It's nice to grab a burrito from here and take a walk down to the beach or the pier. I will keep coming back to this place every time I'm in Flagler!
(5)Shelly S.
Love this place! Been coming here for years and the soft shelled mahi mahi fish tacos hit the spot every time. I order them in 3's, Baja Style. They always taste fresh. They have colorful picnic tables outside to eat. Very casual. They cook inside and you eat outside. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to people driving by for a quick, fresh bite to eat! Everyone I take here is always impressed! Located a block from Flagler Pier. Run don't walk. I dream about these tacos.
(5)Ben V.
Absolutely fantastic. The mahi mahi burrito was awesome and the people there were very nice
(5)Manda C.
Amazing food!! Everything is freshly made. Awesome atmosphere and staff. Will be returning again and again. The sweet tea was also perfect. Such a great lunch spot for a beach day! Way better than any chain name restaurant.. You also don't get just a few prices of shrimp.. You get enough to last till your last bite. Yummmmmm.
(5)Will R.
Are you kidding me! A 3 star at best if I had paid $5.99 or less for the $9.00 burrito. What went wrong with these these ratings? The only benefits were the pleasant food preps and that it was over quickly. Nothing more than an over priced taco cart without wheels because service ends after you place the order. Went in with some expectations of normal value, but ended up with unbelievable. TRUST ME, save your money and go anywhere but here. Nothing but a glorified taco bell, maybe! Were these ratings from starved foodies with no concern for value and bathrooms? The serving size was definitely less than half the size of any other place. It might have been somewhat tasty but the inflated price would get you real value at any Mexican style restaurant. At these prices chips and salsa would be a gimme. If you are a buzzed surfer with Ur parents money then it could be a great place.
(2)Graeme E.
So glad I got off the interstate and visited this little burrito hut. Good food, good service!
(5)Drew M.
This is a much harsher review than it should be, but I do it out of love, not hate. As you can see by the other reviews, this place does stand out. Anyone saying this place is a dive needs to leave their house more. Dives are dark and unassuming with a dash of menace. This place is bright, colorful, open. It is also not a hole-in-the-wall. You walk past a hole-in-the-wall and don't even know it's there. This place punches you in the face with music and beams of light and coriander. It's a take-out joint. I guess that's dangerous to the Macaroni Grill set. This would only be 2 stars if it were 2500 miles to the West, but here it sits in Central Florida, on a little side street in little Flagler Beach. If it were in East LA, it would probably get lost amidst the brilliant taquerias and taco trucks . But HEY man! I TOLD you, this is Flagler Beach NOT LA!11!! I generally get burritos here, and while I have to say they're OK, I never find myself thinking, "must get ass to A1ABW ". My advice to A1ABW: - Go easy on the Vinegar. It's a little overpowering and makes things soggy. - Cook your pork slower. No SLOWER. This is the south, man. You know how it's done! - Change your name to A1ABW4BBW. There are lots of BBW in the area that would line up to scarf up your burritos and become RBBWs. This would please them, and their fanciers. All in all, I totally recommend this place. If you're in Flagler Beach, and aren't some idiotic pretensh burrito snob like I am, you will not be disappointed.
(3)Stacey C.
I had a mixed experience. Being vegan, this is one of the only places in town you can find food. The first night was great - food was prepared as ordered and tasted great. The second time we got our orders to go - and mine was filled with cheese and the cream sauce. It also wasn't cooked as well in general, it was soft rather than crispy. UGH. I didn't want to drive all the way back since it was pouring rain, so I had some of my husband's burrito since fortunately they are big. They also forgot our chips in the to go order. So, since one experience was a 5 and the other a 1, I'm giving it a 3 star rating. I would highly recommend checking your order before you leave.
(3)Mike W.
This place looks like a winner just by its brightly-colored little building and quirky menu, and it lives up to your expectations with good food and a very friendly staff. I found the fish tacos to be really good . . . you have to understand that Baja-style fish tacos will often seem kind of soggy no matter how good or fresh they are, it's just a matter of the sauce used and the breading on the fish. Mine were as good as any I've had anywhere. This is California-style Mex, by the way, not the really hardcore authentic Mexican you'll find where you'll get tacos with onion and cilantro and salsa verde. But as a replica of a Dana Point or Hermosa Beach taco stand in Florida, A1A does a pretty good job by me. The location, just a mere block from the pier and the beach, is perfect, too. As others have also stated, the portions are pretty large, too.
(4)Christie M.
The entirety of my experience could be summed up with "nothing special." Perhaps I went in with too-high expectations or was in a bad mood, but I just wasn't impressed. The staff was friendly enough, and the location convenient (right off the beach and main thoroughfare), but the food wasn't anything to write home about. I got tacos with rice/beans on the side, and paid about four times what I could have paid to make the same dish at home.
(2)Dana W.
Some of the best salsa I have ever tasted - so fresh! And their quesadillas were amazing!! If you're traveling A1A you have to stop here & try them out! My husband liked the fish tacos! Seating is outside on umbrella-covered picnic tables where you can feel and smell the ocean breeze!
(5)Mark M.
I have to say the UFO Burrito is awesome with the added jalapeno peppers does the trick. Its a must try when you visit this part of florida, will not regret it. ENJOY I went to the Palm Coast Location.
(5)Eric J.
We make it a point to stop in this place every time we are in Flagler or Palm Coast. Highly recommend!
(5)Tia T.
I give this cute locally owned place 5 stars. The food was delicious. The portions were very generous. The prices were very affordable. The service was great. The staff was absolutely friendly an welcoming. Loved the whole experience. The Mexicake was scrumptious!
(5)M T.
The family is a big fan, and judging by all the strollers, lots of others are too. They offer a lot of the typical Mexican fare but with large portions. All items are available with the works or Baja style (think California Mexican). My husband loves their Kung Fu Taco and the Baja sauce. I was excited when they started carrying ground beef in addition to the pulled beef. You place your order inside the shack and then seek out the cleanest covered picnic table available outside. If you're expecting a waiter or even a bathroom, you're in the wrong place. Just looking to chill with some good burritos -you're in the right place. They've put a little work into the place recently by painting the picnic tables and adding a hodgepodge of umbrellas. It would be nice if the staff would wipe down the tables once in a while. To be honest, none of this has deterred us from going back but wanted to give a full review. We usually finish up with a ice cream cone from across the street and walk around the area.

One of my best culinary experiences in 2010. It was LIKE after the first bite. Lust after the fifth bite. Love came two weeks later when I was still thinking about that UFO. I guess it takes a long time for my taste buds to determine how much I love something. Conveniently located on the beach, A1A Burrito Works has a large assortment of Mexican food. I had the UFO - vegetarian with beans, cabbage, and a bowlful of baja sauce. It looks like a giant circular burrito in the shape of a flying saucer. Upon cutting, you saw layers of bean, cabbage, tomatoes, cheese, guacamole, and other good food stuff. I buttered my UFO with an ample amount of Baja sauce disregarding the thousands of calories I usually count for health purposes. The taste and memory of that UFO still lingers in my head.
(5)D W.
Service great- the food we had was fresh and rather good! UFO's tacos burritos...right by the beach- fast and good. No eat in...outside eating take out type....
(4)Jason B.
YUM! Now... If you like over flavored, over seasoned food this isn't the place for you. If you like fresh and simple flavor then stop by. I love this place and tell everyone to stop by if they're in town. Grab a bite and watch the waves roll in at their location in Flagler Beach. It's a good combo!!!
(4)Matt V.
I went for the Basic ground beef hard shell taco with the works. Wish I didn't have to share with the kids...may sneak back later.
(4)Russell X.
Great burritos, tacos, quesodillas, etc. with slow-cooked pulled pork/chicken/beef or my favorite - shrimp and fresh mahi mahi. Good food, good service, good people. Right at the beach, behind Z-Wave Surf Shop. Try the fish burrito baja style - amazing! I eat here twice a day. It is that good. And the price is right.
(5)Don B.
Wife loves the Baja style Fish Tacos. She has not found Fish Tacos anywhere else that are better. This is always the fist place we stop at when we return to Flagler Beach. If it's your fist time and don't care for fish, try the UFO. You will not be disappointed.
(4)C D.
Great little Restaurant. if the weather is good or bad, you sit outside. portions are suitable for 2. When they say hot, its hot. be mindful it can get crowded quick
(4)Jason N.
Overpriced and not very flavorful. I was very disappointed in the fish tacos. Seating was poor. 4 picnic tables and only 2 had umbrellas. Come on guys, splurge for 2 more umbrellas with the money you are making from your inflated prices. Would add a star for better seating and another for more flavor from the Baja Fish Tacos.
(2)Melissa T.
Fresh ingredients, muy bueno! The pork UFO was delicious. Price is right for what you get.
(5)Joe S.
Great food. I had the Burrito with Chicken (LArge). It is HUGE. Careful, more than a one person meal, in truth. I ate it all, 'cause I can handle it. Very tasty with the works. Too much food and not enough visits to try the rest of it. Everything is fresh daily. A few outdoor seating areas, but a bit hard to find if you don't know where to look. It's a small shack behind Z Wave Surf Shop. Good eats, very happy! Reminded me of Pesky's in St. Augustine.
(5)Randy B.
I love the food here and the menu is really good. I prefer to get all my food Baja style. Which includes a tangy sauce and cabbage. It is worth a drive from Daytona Beach.
(5)Marilyn G.
This Taco spot is casual , run by surfers,California style Tacos!!! Food there is the best !!! love it love it love it
(5)Miss Y.
I Love my burrito shack! As a Texas transplant, I was really missing my taco fix, but A1A Burrito Works has fixed the whole in my taco heart. YUM! Love the fish tacos and the chicken. May get some today.
(5)L.Marie D.
o.m.g. this is a fantastic find. hole in the wall place that pretends to be a beach bungalow, but really is a dive-y taco stand that is my new favorite spot. the chicken UFO is breath-taking. will be back again and again and again and...
(5)Debi P.
Oh.my . The baja fish tacos of my dreams. I seriously go out of my way to go here for my fresh mahi mahi tacos and their awesome baja sauce. The salsa is great, and the other food is, too, but it's the fish tacos I dream about. Weeks before a trip to Flagler, they're on my mind and I'm counting how many times I can fit in a stop here for them. Yup, surfers set up a colorful shack by the beach, just 4 outside tables and fresh, awesome food. It works. I cannot wait to be back here. Love it.
(5)Matt G.
We were looking for a Mexican place for Cinco de Mayo and saw several positive reviews for this place on Yelp. They were well deserved! A1A Burrito Works is set back a half block from A1A, so we drove around a little in the dark looking for it. It's a half block back on fourth street. The UFO with pork was outstanding, as was a hardshell beef taco. The UFO is a circular, layered creation that's a little toasted, a little chewy and filled with layers of Mexican goodness. They don't serve alcohol, so we walked two blocks to get Coronas (cinco de mayo, man) from a Shell station while they made they food. The cook gave us a cut lime for free. Service was exceptionally friendly. There was outdoor seating only, but nice views of the beach. If you're looking for delicious, super-fresh tacos or outstanding custom Mexican creations (UFO), this is a great selection. One point taken off for no alcohol and no melted cheese on the tacos (they put cheese on top).
(4)Rachael C.
We tried this spot because we heard it was great....not so much. Upon entering the shack to order, there were 3 employees inside. One counting the till, one putting money into a sack to take to the bank (I'm guessing) and one doing dishes, we weren't greeted by any of them. After standing there for about 5 minutes, we finally had our order taken. We went about 6 pm and they are open until 10pm. My husband wanted the beef tacos and was told they were out of beef and then was told they were out of crunchy tacos, when in fact one of the employees said oh wait, there is a box of them on the shelf. When he finally got his tacos, they were swimming in a 1/4 inch of oil. I got the chicken nacho's, they were mediocre. The chicken was flavorless, the salsa tasted as though it was on the verge of going bad and the whole bottom was soggy. The soda machine wasn't working and I guess it was too much of a hassle to make any tea because they didn't have any of that either. All they had were canned soda's. Taco bell has better flavor in my opinion. We probably won't go back.
(2)Julia M.
What a treat, great burritos and tacos. The lime juice and cilantro are terrific. Wish the crunchy taco shells were homemade, I'll stick to flour next time, but the rest was terrific. Oh watch for the sign, the shop isn't actually on A1A, it's one-quarter block off the main drag, worth looking for though.
(4)Mark H.
Really good -- reminiscent of Chipotle or Qdoba, but without the avante garde industrial stainless steel decor, and much more natural ambiance (it has a view of the beach, after all). The prices were reasonable, and everyone who worked there was super friendly! We'll definitely have to make another trek to the A1A Burrito Works! The chicken was tender and a bit spicier than Chipotle, which I liked. My wife enjoyed her veggie burrito, and gave it a higher rating over similar offerings from Chipotle or Qdoba. Bottom line: It's not a five star restaurant, but it's among the best of its genre.
(5)Mary Ann M.
We went around the lunch hour and could barely get in the door, there were so many people there. The people who worked there were friendly and my burrito was very good. I particularly liked the salsa! If I would have known it was that good, I would have asked for extra.
(4)Al F.
Super amazingly good and fast!!!

Whenever we are in Flagler Beach at around lunch time we make a special effort to drop in here for some South of the Border delights. The place (for now) is just a very small ordering counter and a kitchen/grill area, with some picnic benches for "dining in" outdoors. I heard that the owners have bought the larger building next door (on A1A itself) and maybe they are going to make a true dining room. The day we stopped in, the weather was not conducive to eating outdoors so we got ours to go. I had the beef "Mexican UFO", sort of a cross between a flattened burrito and a really fat quesadilla. It has the usual stuff in it, as well as tortilla chips which is intended to give it a crunchy texture (I found that the chips lost their crunch even before I got it home to eat). This puppy was packed with tasty sliced beef, beans, cheese and condiments and was enough for two people. She had a pork quesadilla, which was also mighty fine, with plenty of cheese (can't have too much cheese AFAIK), flavorful and tender pork, and the sour cream, salsa, and guacamole on the side were great additions. As Drew M. said in his review, this might be an ordinary tacqueria in East LA, but we ain't there, and for the Florida coast this is mighty fine.
(4)Victoriya S.
Got to love A1A Burrito Works! Three good locations (Palm Coast, Flagler Beach, St.Augustine) with great food. Great place to hang out, have a beer and enjoy their specialty "UFO". Always fresh! The salsa Verde is a must.
(5)Taylor S.
You know this place is going to be good just by driving by. It is the epitome of beach side, hole in the wall, grub. So my family and I flipped a U-turn and made one of the best decisions of the trip: to dine at A1A Burrito Works. I wanted the Verde burrito, but to my disappointment, they were out of the verde sauce. A long line forming behind me, I was left to make a quick choice---hmm, ok, ok. Fish tacos? Local, probably good. No. Burrito? Had chipotle the other day. No. Hurry, hurry. Um. Um. I'll take the Mexican UFO with chicken, baja sauce and add guac. Oh and a Mexican soda. So I walked out to my picnic table, not really sure what I had just ordered but I was expecting something in the shape of a frisbee. My name was called and I carried this heavy Mexi-disc to the table where all my family members looked down at their typical taco--my UFO--their typical taco--my UFO. I win. My taste buds exploded as soon as this thing hit my mouth. It was dripping like a burger-made-medium and the flavors of cilantro, avocados, pico and shredded chicken were just incredible. I'm a HUGE Mexican food fan anyway, so I'm always easily pleased. But the white-man spin they took on these Mexi flavors were just amazing. Now if only I could somehow fly this Mexi UFO saucer back to my home in Kansas City then I would really be a happy girl.
(5)Jon H.
This place is awesome. There are several Mexican food places here in town and none compare. Burritos are wrapped tight, like they do in San Fran, so you can walk with them (even though they're huge, and it's probably not a good idea). There isn't anything on the menu that isn't great, even when you compare it to normal cites with normal food. Highly Recommended!!
